CIYOTA's approach of strengthening community engagement does not goes beyond local communities. We have friends around the world, who care and love our work to transform communities in Africa. We welcome these people and extend the opportunity to build the community.

David Winn, Rockingham County Schools
N.C Chapter Leader

My name is David Winn and I have been married to my beautiful wife, Janet, for 34 years. We have 2 children, Alex and Laura. I have a B.S. in Sports Medicine with a teaching license in Biology/General Science.

I currently teach 8th grade science at Holmes Middle School in Eden N.C. The purpose of Connect Ministries is to partner God's people with God's resources. Although my initial contact with COBURWAS was quite unintentional, I know God directed it! After my family, my 3 passions are evangelism, education and Africa. These are the same passions shared by COBURWAS and I am honored to partner with this wonderful organization!

Matt Rice

Matt Rice was born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Kiski Area High School where he became involved with the music program. With his love of music, he attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a Bachelors of Science in Music Education and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a Master in Music Education. He then attended North Carolina State University and earned a Master in School Administration.

Currently, Matt is an Assistant Principal at Reidsville High School with the Rockingham County School System in North Carolina. He has taught music education to students at the elementary, middle and high school level to include general music, chorus and band. Matt also serves as the organist and choirmaster at First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington, NC.

Matt has a natural love for people and learning about different cultures. He has visited over 20 countries across the globe: Iceland, Honduras, China, Bulgaria and the United Arab Emirates to name a few. However, he has a special relationship in his heart with the people at Coburwas Primary School and Uganda. "The children and adults are eager to share their stories and culture as well as learn about the world. Staying in the refugee camp and living with the people of the community is a humbling experience. I am grateful to the school allowing me to teach and help the next generation of Ugandans."

RCS Connect Ministries, Rockingham County Schools, Uganda Partnership. This group was established after being in touch with the CIYOTA leaders for few years. The team leader Mr. David Winn, who is also a teacher, was put in touch with COBURWAS Primary School head teacher to organize exchange learning between the students at their different school. Students from North Carolina and those at COBURWAS Primary School exchange letters and solve classroom questions via skype calls. In summer of 2016, a team of 5 staff from North Carolina came to do exchange teaching at COBURWAS Primary School and they loved the experience.

They also donated books to the school and Bibles to the community. Every year, number educators will travel to Kyangwali to spend sometime to spend time with COBURWAS Primary School teachers to work on a number of activities like teaching to support the school and also to learn some new things that may be of great value to the schools and the community in North Carolina.
